In October 2016 Arlene & I traveled to Boulder City Nevada to ride on the Nevada Southern Railroad. What makes the Nevada Southern Railroad so special you might ask? Well, the NSRR has a locomotive numbered 844. This locomotive is an EMD GP30 that went into service for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1963. Now the Union Pacific at that time as it does now, had an active steam program with a FEF 4-8-4 Steam locomotive numbered 844 which was renumbered to 8444 to make way for this GP30 which was to be numbered 844. On or around 1989, 844 (the GP30) was retired and removed from service giving back to 8444 (The steam locomotive) it's original number of 844. 844 the diesel locomotive was later donated to the Nevada Southern Railway Museum in Boulder City Nevada around 2001. This locomotive ran system wide on Union Pacific's portion of the famed Transcontinental Railroad for nearly 30 years.
This is a great train ride made even better if you pay the extra money to ride in the cab of 844 with the crew which is what Arlene and I did. Thanks NSRR for a Great day!
